Alyssa and Ben reached out to us about their surprise backyard wedding in Wylie that they were planning. You read that right, a “surprise” wedding. At this point, Mariel and I were VERY interested and our wheels were turning with all the great expressions we were going to document. I then asked, “How will you get your family and friends to come without tipping them off?” “Well, since I’m the the family photographer,” replied Alyssa, “I will tell our families that we are going to get together for family portraits at this small park in Rowlett. Then we will just have a minister show up to marry us.”
Needless to say, Mariel and I were very excited about this wedding.
However, as it turned out, the cat got out of the bag and the family was let in on the planning a few weeks before the big day. Honestly, I bet Alyssa and Ben were glad to have the help and the support leading up to their wedding.
The summer heat did not slow the wedding down one second, but there were a few hiccups before the bride and groom could say their vows. Moments before the bridal party was escorted down the aisle, it was brought to the attention of the minister that the wedding license was missing.
The father of the bride rushed back to the house to grab the license. Not wanting to break tradition by seeing each other before the ceremony, Alyssa and Ben took this time to support each other by touch. Did I mention that the sprinklers went off during this time too? Well, they did, but it added a fun wrinkle to this beautiful day.
Images like these are why Mariel and I love our jobs. Raw emotion. True love. Congrats to Alyssa and Ben!
